Program Description
TARGET (The Academy at Rutgers for Girls in Engineering and Technology) is a summer program designed to increase awareness in middle school and high school girls about the career opportunities available in engineering. TARGET encompasses five different one week commuter programs of 24 girls each. Through a series of hands-on activities, team challenges, speakers, and mentorships, TARGET aims to familiarize girls with different engineering disciplines and destroy negative stereotypes concerning their ability to do well in math and science.Eligibility
Girls who are currently in 6th grade are eligible for TARGET 1. Girls who are currently in 7th grade are eligible for TARGET 2. Girls who are currently in 8th grade are eligible for TARGET 3. Girls who are currently in 9th grade are eligible for TARGET 4. Girls who are currently in 10th grade are eligible for TARGET 5.Dates
*TARGET 1 (6th Grade): June 30th - July 3rd, 2008*TARGET 2 (7th Grade): July 7th - July 11th, 2008
*TARGET 3 (8th Grade): July 14th - July 18th, 2008
*TARGET 4 (9th/10th Grade): July 21st - July 25th, 2008
Times
TARGET will be held each weekday from 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM.
Location
TARGET will be held on the Rutgers University Busch Campus in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Transportation
Transportation to the Rutgers campus each day shall be provided by the student's family.
Meals
Lunch and two snacks daily will be provided by Rutgers.
Cost
The cost for one week is $250.00 (Sponsorship may be available on a need basis upon acceptance into the program.)
Application Procedure

If you complete an online application, please have your teacher submit a letter of recommendation via postal mail to the address listed below. If you complete a hard copy of the application, be sure to include the letter of recommendation with your application materials. Applicants will be selected on a first come, first served basis. Please be sure to submit your materials early!
